Shane van Gisbergen wins in Chicago!
New Zealand's very own sports star, Shane van Gisbergen, has rocked the NASCAR scene with an awe-inspiring debut win, capturing the attention of global racing enthusiasts,
Shane van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercars champion from Auckland, New Zealand, had a historic debut season in NASCAR in 2023. He made a significant impact by winning his first Cup Series race in his debut at the Chicago Street Course in July.
This win marked him as the first competitor to achieve a victory in a Cup Series debut since Johnny Rutherford in 1963 and the first New Zealander to win in NASCAR's premier series. Following this success, van Gisbergen made his Craftsman Truck Series debut and achieved notable finishes in subsequent races.
For the 2024 season, van Gisbergen is set to participate in his first full-time stint in the Xfinity Series, driving the No. 97 Chevrolet Camaro for Kaulig Racing, in alliance with Trackhouse Racing. Additionally, he is scheduled to make seven Cup Series starts with Trackhouse Racing, including events at Circuit of the Americas, Talladega Superspeedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Chicago Street Course, Watkins Glen International, and Las Vegas Motor Speedway
