Sir Steve Hansen is one of the most successful rugby coaches in history. As head coach of the All Blacks from 2012 to 2019, he led the team to the 2015 Rugby World Cup, six consecutive Rugby Championships and recognition as the most successful sports team of its era. Today he is Head Coach of Toyota Verblitz in Japan's League One and a globally booked speaker on leadership and high performance.
Who is Sir Steve Hansen? Born in Mosgiel in 1959, Steve grew up on the family dairy farm before moving to Christchurch. He spent six years in the New Zealand Police and played 21 first-class matches for Canterbury before turning to coaching in 1996. He coached Canterbury to two NPC titles, took charge of Wales from 2002 to 2004, and returned to New Zealand as All Blacks assistant coach under Sir Graham Henry. He succeeded Henry as head coach in December 2011 and was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2020.
